There are several variations of the poker and one among them is the Omaha poker. It is also considered as the second best card game that possibly attracts people. In the card games category Omaha poker comes next to the Texas holdem poker. Though both the card games Omaha poker and Texas holdem are similar there is a main difference is that the Omaha player can select his or her hand out of nine cards instead of seven. Perhaps one can single out this as a common reason behind its popularity.

The playing structure of the Omaha poker is same that of the Texas holdem poker and the playing style also resembles to it. However, there is one difference in the Omaha; players are given four hole cards instead of two. The game starts with players posting blinds followed by receiving their respective hole cards. The betting round starts after the players receive their cards. After the betting round comes the flop, turn and the river and between each of them there is a betting round. There is another common difference between the Omaha and Texas holdem poker, in the Omaha players has to build their hands with the help of two hole cards and three board cards. But in case of the Texas holdem poker a player has the choice; he can use one, both or none of his hole cards. In order to win the low hand a player should use two unpaired hole cards which are ranked lower than eight along with the three board cards which are also unpaired and ranked lower than eight. The starting hands in the Omaha poker must be coordinated which means the cards must fit together. It would be better if the cards can form straights, flushes or a full house. Hardly there is any possibility that a pair would hold up on an Omaha table. For a player double-suited hands could give a chance of a flush and also players look for the cards that are close together or considered in a run. Omaha poker can be either played with a pot limit or limit. There is no possibility of no limit games, as in the Omaha poker four hole cards gives the player so many possibilities, chances and a no limit game would be too wild. Like other poker games it too has some excitement, thrill and need some skills from the player which could help him win.
